LTE, Long Term Evolution, is the next major step in mobile radio communications standard following the3rd generation, which contains both Frequency Division Duplexing and Time Division Duplexing. As the most important standard, LTE has been deployed by the majority of mobile operators in the world.Based on the rapid development of Chinaunicom and its network evolution, the paper carries outadeep research on LTE network planing. It contains an introduction of the key and basic techniques employed by LTE, the main methods and detailed procedure of network planning, as well as the application in LTE trail network.Firstly, this paper introduces the OFDM, MIMO and other techniques employed by LTE. Then,the coverage, capacity, network performance, as well as the methods and procedure of LTE planning are discussed. Finally these methods are applied in a trail network.
