Portable infrared missile is the terminal defense weapon of the air defense system inchina. Most of them track targets using the infrared no-imaging seekers. Although theinfrared image seeker is currently being used more and more widely, the infrared no-imagingseeker is still being used widely because of its many advantages. At the same time, theinfrared no-imaging seeker also has many drawbacks. In this paper, after the target trackingalgorithm is improved and optimized on the hardware platform, it is embedded in the portableinfrared missile in order to improve the speed and accuracy of tracking. In this paper, the principle of the infrared no-imaging seeker is summarized firstly.Coordinate system is selected based on this principle. Then, we analyze the popular targettracking algorithms and motion models. the Constant Velocity(CV) model and the Constantturning(CT) model are applied as the target motion model at last. Also, the InteractingMultiple Models(IMM) algorithm is presented, combined with the motion models. And theIMM algorithm’s speed and accuracy of tracking are ameliorated by improving the motionmodels and the Markov transition matrix. Last, depending on the feature provided by the DSPhardware platform, this algorithm is highly optimized by C code optimization, assemblyoptimization, IQmath library functions and Instruction pipeline. The algorithms proposed in this paper are simulated firstly in the MATLAB simulationenvironment. And this algorithm can satisfy the requirements of the portable infrared missilein the simulation results. The experiment on the DSP hardware platform proves that theoptimized IMM algorithm has advantage with high calculation efficiency. And it is suitablefor the high real-time system.
