With the development of marketing economy, the requirements of culture civilization areincreasing. The progress of medium is one kind of the way which can increase the spirit life ofman. But nowadays the dimmer system in all kinds of medium manufacture, stage, and theatercan not meet the requirements. The investigation of high performan and quality dimmer systemis urgent. However the main device of current dimmer system adopts thyristor which generatesharmonic and noise. Those faults will result in polluting the power net and influenting theeffectiveness of dimmer. Thus the study of a new generation dimmer system is necessary andpressing.Based on the requirements, IGBT is used for adjustable dimmer generation unit (ADGU).This paper not only studies, designs and realizes ADGU, but also investigates and designs relatedsectional executive dispatch system.Because the control signal of IGBT is high frequence whichis out of hearing range, the noise problem can be easily solved and the injecting power netharmonics also can be filtered easily. The characteristics of IGBT meet the requirements of anew generation dimmer system and can acceralate realization of “green” dimmer.The schemes of ADGU design are various. This paper analytic demonstrates two kinds ofdesign schemes: one is based on Single Chip Micyoco (SCM) and the other based on DSP. Thispaper compares and analyses the two kinds of design schemes, and adopts the latter at last.Furthermore, related drive and protection of IGBT and temperature control unit are considered inthis paper to realize high performance dimmer system. In the aspect of control strategy, theclosed loop control strategy and redundancy control strategy are investigated in this paper,because a majority of current dimmer systems use open loop control strategy. The controlaccuracy, reliability and safety will be improved by design of closed loop control strategy andredundancy control strategy.Development debugging, laboratory debugging and premiminary field debugging have beenfinished after achieving circuit design and software development of a new generation dimmercabinet. The experiment results demonstrate that this system not only effective conquers faults ofsome current dimmer system, but also can improving the whole performances and digital level ofdimmer system.. The using of suitable control strategy makes control procedure accuracy andadvances realiability and safety of the dimmer system..
