Trip planner is a module of Integrated Real-time Mobility Assistant (IRMA).IRMA assists individuals during their mobility lifecycle in smart cities and intendsto provide a new vision of mobility that is smart, integrated and green. Trip plannerprovides smart services that deal with planning before the trip, monitoring duringand after the trip. Our focus is their implementation for mobile devices, specificallyAndroid application.Trip planner development is based on Opentripplanner, an open source projectthat supports transport open data and provides algorithms for best path selection.The advantage of open data is that we can get more information from different legalentities (e.g. transport companies and municipalities). Open data are used in thisproject according to GTFS (General transit feed specification) format that definestransportation information in a structured file. Taking advantage of GTFS and OSM(Open Street Map), the system can support trip planning in different areas in theworld.In this thesis, the main content is to develop an Android application thatconnects to the Opentripplanner server and re-uses the service given byOpentripplanner. We have implemented additional functions (e.g. register anaccount, save trip, delete trip etc.) that even Opentripplanner doesn’t provide butessential to individuals travelling in a smart city. Furthermore, we provide afunction that is real-time trip monitoring based on GCM (Google Cloud Messager).This function can help users to save time during their trips because the applicationalerts users about mobility events caused by traffic accidents or any other problems.The thesis describes trip planner mobile application development according to thesoftware life-cycle in terms of system requirement analysis, system design, systemimplementation and system test. In conclusion, I give some prospects about thefuture work for trip planner project.
