As everyone probably knows, the major source for most people to acquireinformation by video is the internet and television. But television may not send thelatest information to people as soon as possible, thus internet becomes a more suitablevideo image to convey the latest and important information to users. Video on demand(VOD) system is one of the main ways through which the internet users can access tothe latest information or to video online watch. The traditional television watching isthat people can only watch the programs shown on TV and in a completely passiveway, whereas the VOD system has changed people’s watching mode greatly. Internetusers can freely browse video information, using the core functions of on demand,looking back, and suspending, etc. This VOD system software designed anddeveloped by me uses BVS architecture, and the design of the software includes:understanding customer needs, rough design, the design of software framework,database structure design, and code section.The main functions include video onlinebrowse, view of the video details, online play, video search, video upload,modification, and delete key, etc. The system uses MICROSOFT company’sASP.NET as the development tools, development environment SQL SERVER2005+MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO2005as the background database, and the serverconfiguration is suggested to use: WINDOWS2000\/2003\/2008+IIS.Nowadays there are many different VOD systems, but we hope the systemdeveloped by me can be used for students’ education and entertainment. And thesystem can also be relatively safe and avoid unnecessary advertising and otherharmful information to spread to the campus. We, therefore think it is essential todevelop such a campus VOD system, because the resources for theindependently-developed VOD system can be controllable, the data backup can beconducted timely and all by ourselves, and also the campus firewall can serve as abarrier for safety. The overall task of the system development is to conduct thefunctional design to meet the needs of the audio and video online compus play inaccordance with the school’s teaching and educational video-playback requirements.In order to help students learn autonomously through the video on demand system, students can use the Streaming Media VOD technology which is now in active use tocontact the server to start video playback, and at the same time the server too shouldhave a sufficient broadband to ensure the smooth playback effect. Meanwhile, weactively upgraded the system, hoping that the system can be applied more to theclassroom-teaching, and that we can supply abundant video-course resources forstudents to browe and watch freely and conveniently. By adding and perfecting theauxiliary function, and optimizing and improving distance teaching function, we thinkwe have made some new and innovative progress in the network learningenvironment, teaching program production, program implementation by the VODsystem, content retrieval and management, and interactive teaching. And we have alsoprovided an effective environment and platform for the schools to carry out thecampus network teaching and learning. Actually the system has been put into trialuse in a secondary vocational school, and so far its operation has been good.
