The Plant of MSC(Material Science Company)is a typical Batch Process Plant; its MES requires a special function which is different from not only process industry, but also discrete industry. What to be handled in the MES includes demand, ingredient of feed stock&grade of product, real-time production conditions and its message flow from Preliminary Definition of order to order completion. The major task of Batch Process MES is rigorously and agilely to achieve Recipe Management, though it needs an effective platform of information system same time as a bridge to integrate business management and production control system in an enterprise information system. The key contributions of the paper are1. Successfully represented the key messages of batch production in MES by building master recipe model, general recipe model, real-time standard operation condition recipe model, and its logic relationship amongst BOM, Order of ERP system, Recipes and set points of production condition, which provided a pilot of development of Batch Industry MES.2. Defined the recipes in two sets in the MES project. One set, we defined as Master Recipe and General Recipe, are of steady attribute files but will vary its content with the stages of production. Other set are some dynamic parameters, we defined as Real Time Standard Condition Recipe, will vary with the orders, production lines, the quantity and quality of feedstock and additives. Master Recipe and General Recipe will produce Grade Recipe and Color Recipe, and have to form Real Time Recipe before it works in production. The paper presents how to build the related model and calculation of Real Time Recipe, and then build a rule between product grade, including color, and the set points of production condition, solve recipe management automation issues in MES solution.3. Adopted Woderware Application Server as a core system platform to ensure the applications healthy and sustainable if needing to change some parameters when rolling out it in others. Used XML file as a public exchange fold between SAP and ERP to conduct order retrieving, parsing, processing and archives. Exchanged data with LIMS and Dispensing system based on relational database with SQL Query, and with OSI PI real time monitoring system by OPC technology. The parameters form MES system could be down loaded to DCS as a controlling set point after confirmed by operator, it is a target which has not reached by most of MES systems in process industry.Adopt Wonderware Information Server as a platform for integration with customized web user and operation interfaces and system management. It is easy to access to modify the application if need more functions and maintenance. There are38screens to help end user manage and maintenance the system, which covers Oder management, Recipe management, Performance management and real time production information.
