Electric power communication equipments are not only the material basis of powercommunication network, but also the functional unit of power communications servicerunning. With the advance of smart grid construction in China, structure of electric powercommunication network is becoming more and more complex, and the communicationservice that the electric power communication equipments host and manage is increasing.However, the potential risks are rising too. One single electric power communicationequipment failure may cause communication disruption, especially the interruption ofrelay protection. This may cause an accident or even system crashing which leads to asignificant loss.Important degree theories are used to analyze the communication equipments,according to the actual operation of the electric power communication network, areliability analysis mode for the electric power communication network based onservices link was proposed. And also a comprehensive importance evaluation method forthe power communication equipments was put forward. It analyzed the impact on thereliability of communication network and the business that electric powercommunication devices carried. It can objectively reflect the importance of thecommunication devices through weighting coefficients. Through analysis and evaluationof the line protection of the communication network of particular provincial company,line protection service reliability model and system reliability function were defined.According to comprehensive importance evaluation, the comprehensive importance ofcommunication equipments for link protection was calculated and the importance ofrelay protection was sorted. According to the result, each equipment importance measureof link relay protection communication system can be compared with others. The resultsshow that comprehensive importance evaluation consists more with facts than otherevaluation methods. Comprehensive importance evaluation can be important for thetransformation of the electric power communication network structure, communicationequipment maintenance strategy formulation and can provide scientific basis forimproving the entire network reliability.
