Frame Analysis On The China Section Of The Economist

The paper focuses on famous newspaper the Economist. After the briefintroduction of the newspaper, I will analyze80articles in its China Section from Julyto December,2003and its reporting frame, aiming at revealing its different frames ondifferent types of news. There’re five chapters in this paper.Chapter1gives the research background and current situation about thisnewspaper. By combing through literature on this newspaper, I intend to find out whatis lacking in current research and fill in the blank as well as enrich its research circle.Chapter2focuses on the brief introduction of this newspaper, including its basicguidelines, editing style, writing style as well as its different columns.Chapter3is the text analysis of80articles during this period of time. First it willstart an introduction of media framing theory. And then it will provide a generalpicture of its articles and classifications. Last its interesting and meaningful cartoonillustrations will be mentioned.Chapter4will be an in-depth exploration of the newspaper’s reporting frame asfar as China is concerned. Two types of news will be selected: border news andeconomic news. Therefore the different frames will be revealed.Chapter5concludes the differences in its reporting frames. It explores the causesof different frames from the socio-cultural aspect and routine in news producing.
