With the pushing and development of smart grid technology, the information management of electric power system is growing rapidly. Therefore, data business gradually became the domination of electric power communication and further developed to the IP direction. The traditional SDH communication of electric power system has been unable to satisfy the demand of big configuration businesses carrying and transport. In order to meet the growing business requirement, how to improve the performance of communication system and the system bandwidth has become the focus of power optical transmission network.For this urgent application demand, the research of large capacity optical transmission network based on the OTN technology is proposed and specifically applies to the construction of electric power communication network in Liaoning province. Firstly, through analyzing the electric power communication network status and business demand of Liaoning province, this paper finds that the usage of business bandwidth in data network has reached saturation and been in urgent need of extension. Then, the construction necessity of the OTN project is determined. The network topology of OTN backbone in western and central south ring is built, which take advantage of the500V substation and optical cables. At the same time, the specific configuration scheme of the equipments of optical multiplexer section layer, optical transmission layer and network management system is put forward. Thus, the whole network becomes the wide coverage and high reliable one which can transmit and access the large configuration business.On this basis, this paper also focuses on the analysis and design of the protection and channel configuration closely combining with the characteristics of regional business requirements. Finally, the research and construction of the large capacity backbone optical transmission network covering provincial branches, reserve accommodation, regional company and the second focal point of district communication are completed.
