With the rapid development of multimedia technology, learners have a higher demandfor learning resources and interactivity, dynamics and reality in situations. The traditionalmultimedia coursewares and files have the disadvantages such as poor interaction, weaknessin dynamic, etc., which makes the multimedia courseware makers turn to other new mediatechnology. As the desktop virtual reality technology, the3D engine is popular with thedevelopers for its realistic3D effect, flexible interaction, small generating files and lowhardware platform etc. As a result, it can reasonably integrate the development of3D enginetechnology and teaching resources with the construction of personalized learning environment,promoting the development of three-dimensional courseware resources. Since teachingcoursewares of high quality are for better serving the teaching, this paper focuses on the studyand practice of how to use the3D engine technique to develop3D coursewares.This paper analyzes and discusses the related problems in the development ofthree-dimensional courseware using3D engine technology from the perspective of theory,technology and practice. Firstly, it introduces the background of study and the currentapplication of three-dimensional courseware. Secondly, it theoretically analyzes thetheoretical support and practical guidance of the application of multimedia technology inteaching. Thirdly, from a technical level, the3D engine technology as a starting point, thecurrent mainstreams of3D engine are analyzed and compared. On this basis of it, the basicsteps and methods of the application of three dimensional engine technology in coursewaremaking are summarized, and the corresponding teaching samples are made with the selectedrepresentative development tools, which provides a feasible idea of promotion and use of3Dengine for teaching. Finally, from the perspective of practice, this paper introduces thespecific process of application of development tools like3DS Max, Unity3D, etc.to develop3D software, and puts forward some recommendations to promote the3D engine technologyto apply in the development of teaching resources. The conclusion part of the paper points outboth advantages and broad prospects of integration of the3D engine technology and3Dcourseware development, analyzes the characteristics and innovation of this study, and alsoputs forward the deficiencies and the direction of further research, expecting to apply the newmedia technology-3D engine in developing the best3D courseware integrating teaching,interactivity, three-dimension and dynamic into one in the future.
