With the rapid development of digital multimedia technology and computer network, digital content can be easily copied without loss and transmitted to any corner of the world immediately at low expense. It is serious situation that protecting the content owner's copyright and ensuring information security in the network environment. Digital Right Management (DRM) has brought out as a solution to this problem.DRM includes the technologies for describingN identifying^ protecting> monitoring the copyright . It creates a trust environment in the network to protect the IP (Intellectual Property) and other profits of content owner, monitoring the transaction and usage of copyrighted content.The research and work of this thesis are mainly based on a multimedia intelligence courseware system the author took part in. In that courseware system, digital audio and video are central parts of the courseware it producing. This thesis focuses on the digital right management of the audio/video in the courseware, in that way, the courseware can be used properly and the IP of the teacher can be well protected.This thesis is totally divided into six chapters. Chapter 1 is the preface, which presents background, purpose, significance of the research. In chapter 2, the author first makes the comparisons-of present DRM systems in streaming media area, analyzing the architecture of most DRM systems and the common pattern inside them, then giving a summary of the technologies and standards which involved in those DRM systems. After that, the author introduces the Windows Media Right Manager (WMRM) system deeply. The author selects it as drm tool finally because it supports perfect authority model and offers abundantapplication development interface. At the last part of relevant technology the author introduces Windows Media 9 technology. In chapter 3, the author introduces the design and main modules in GenBox, a multimedia courseware intelligence system, puts emphasis on the courseware DRM modules, and gives the detail design of courseware DRM in live broadcasting and non-live broadcasting. Chapter 4 and chapter 5 are implementation of courseware DRM. In chapter 4, the author gives the implementation of courseware DRM in live broadcasting, which includes the DRM service at the GenBox server part, the authorization service and the GenBox client response. In chapter 5, the author gives the implementation of courseware DRM in non-live broadcasting, which includes the courseware encrypting and packaging, the authorization service. Finally, in chapter 6, the author summarizes the full text, and looks into the distance to the work in the future.DRM is still in progress, much work should be done. After the China's access to WTO, people treasure IP (Intellectual Property) especially the Copyright more than before. This thesis not only gives a deep overview of DRM systems, the technologies inside them, but also applies DRM in a multimedia intelligence courseware system. The DRM implementation of the courseware covers the classical usages of DRM-live and non-live DRM, meanwhile they protecting the 2 formats of the multimedia-stream and file.The work this thesis has its universality and can do much help to apply DRM in present streaming media system, which will make the digital media consumption more mature finally.
