Design And Implement Of E-Learning System Based On Sakai Project

Sakai is short for Synchronized Archileeture for Knowledge AcquisitionInfrastructure; the project was launched in2004by Indiana University, University ofMichigan, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is anopensource collaborative and teaching management system (CMS).This project seeks to understand the architecture of Sakai. This paper is todescrie the secondary development based on sakai project which is customized forthe reuire of digital teaching system of TianJin University. This paper contains thefollowing sections:Firstly, there is a introduction to sakai which is a complex learning managementbased on JavaEE, then the deploy of sakai will be completed. Secondly, the paperwill describe the main technical which was used in the Sakai system, and thenunderstand the design and implementation of the Sakai framework. Next will be thedevelopment of the elearning system which depends on the require of TJU. Thesecondary development is included of these sections: localization of user interface,using sso system to instead of the authentication mechanism of sakai system, theimplement of data integration between the local database and remote database and thedevelopment of teaching tools in sakai. Subsequently, an experiment of thedeployment of sakai platform on highavailable Linux cluster, using Linux virtualserver and Keepalived will be appeared. Finally, this paper will discuss what shouldbe done next and the prospet of this system in TianJin University.
