An approach to computer-aided modular fixture based on3D process model is proposed in thispaper. The complete information models are built for the modular fixture elements and3D processmodel. The technology for modular fixture rapid assembly design is studied. A modular fixture rapiddesign system based on3D process model is developed on platform UG. It is proved that the systemcan improve designing efficiency and shorten production cycle time.The main achievements are as follows:(1) The modular fixture assembly feature is defined and the information model of modular fixtureelements is established by investigating the structure specialty of fixture elements. The modularfixture element database including model database, dimension database and assembly informationdatabase is designed with Teamcenter and Access Database.(2) The information model of3D process model is proposed by devising the locating and clampingschemes. The definition tool of locating and clamping information on3D process model isimplemented.(3) The technology of modular fixture rapid assembly design is studied, including the rapidassembly between modular fixture elements, the rapid assembly between modular fixture elementsand3D process model. The rapid design of modular fixture is developed.(4) The modular fixture rapid design system is developed on UG platform with Visual C++andUG/Open API, and it has been successfully applied in a domestic aviation manufacturing enterprise.
