With the rapid development of Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) technology and higherrequirements of smart waterway stated in the new Five-Year Plan, the information technology ofwaterway Based on WSN has become a hot research topic. The author has designed a smart pharossystem that combines Wireless Sensor Network, commercial wireless network and Ethernet.In this paper, the author introduces a smart pharos that integrates WSN, GSM, GPS and ispowered by storage cell and solar energy. Based on Operation System Abstraction Layer, the smartpharos software is highly modifiable and portable. By creating data communication protocol andstudying the physical information and usage data of waterway, the author has designed a standardinformation transmission framework, established a standard mechanism for information transmission.This method introduced combines GPS and ZigBee positioning mode, providing cheap andflexible navigation for pharos, vessels, equipment etc. within the digital waterway positioning field.By studying the general multilateral positioning method based on path loss, the author proposes animproved positioning algorithm based on path loss ratio that is more suitable for smart waterway.The development of servers and Web applications has validated the communication protocolsbetween smart pharos and various platforms as well as the data exchange process. Additionally, it hasenabled full-function human-machine interaction. This study has been successfully applied in somepilot areas of the Yangtze River waterway, running in good condition.
