The COSMIC method is one of the software functional size measurement(functional size measurement, short for FSM) for international standard. This methodhas already been widely applied to various types of software functional sizemeasurement since its publication in1997. However, the COSMIC method hasn’t anefficient tool to support its application. In software measurement, manual measurementis used mostly.Manual measurement is insufficient in three aspects as follows: Firstly, manualmeasurement is low efficiency. When measuring, time is often wasted in manual datarecording etc... Secondly, the measurement is poor in normalization. The measurementstaff is the main part in manual measurement, the measurement is too arbitrary, itsprocess is hard to unify. The most important point is that, the manual measurement cannot control the whole procedure, it mainly relies on staff ’s understanding and memoryon principles to estimate subjectively, there is no guaranty if it is correct or not.Therefore, the measurement results of accuracy and repeatability are relatively poor.For the manually measure shortcomings, this thesis aims to design a kind ofCOSMIC Measurement Supplementary Method. The method can standardize measureprocess, restrain and guide the acts of measurement staff, reduce measure randomness.In addition, the method can reduce errors caused by human factors, improve themeasurement accuracy and consistency through the measurement error analysis andsolution. Finally, it completes measurement supplementary tool design andimplementation based on this method.The main job of this thesis is as follows:1. Defining detailed measurement process, stipulating and explaining measurementreport. The measurement process was normalized in this thesis through in-depth studyof the method, as well as summary of practical measurement. The measurement processis divided into10steps, it provides a complete and reasonable measurement processafter standardization. At the same time, it regulates and explains the measurement reportcontent and format, so the measurement staffs further improve on methodsunderstanding and command.2. Summing up the common errors in measurement practice, analyzing the errorcauses, putting forward relevant countermeasures and controlling the flow of process.This thesis focuses on researching four key links control. In measurement process, theidentification subjectivity include of functional users, functional process, interestobjects and data mobile is strongest, the risks is also the highest, it is the biggest fourkey links to impact measurement process quality. Based on the common problemanalysis in the practical measurement, the roots of the problems were elaborated on this thesis. Finally, the countermeasures were made, and a complete control process wasformed.3. Finishing the design and implementation of measure tools. Based on the ruleapplication and measurement process quality control method, combining thestandardized measurement process, it designed and implemented a measure toolCMST(COSMIC Measure Supplementary Tool) in this thesis. It reduces mistakescaused by subjective errors and improves the measurement accuracy and consistency ofthe results through rules tips, automatic judgment, the means such as Check to supportmeasurement staff to grasp and application.4. Designing verification method and verifying the tools’ validity. Based on thedifferent levels of measurement staff, in the measurement of commercial applicationsoftware and real-time software, it verifies the tool’s validity to improve themeasurement efficiency and accuracy through the measure data analysis andcomparison between manual measurement and tools supporting.This thesis through the design and implementation of supplementary tool,standardize the measurement process and it’s quality control. This is a new attempt todeal with the measurement accuracy and consistency,it still has great space and isworthy of further study. The content of this thesis has provided a good foundation forthe following studies.
