For opening and closing doors, automatic loading and unloading hopper wagon system usually adopts the mechanical position systems and mechanical control systems or electric boot position systems, which all have disadvantages such as the technical backwardness. Based on modern technology, this system requires achieving non-contact and automatic loading and unloading process to the hopper wagon with the automatic position identifying, automatic loading and unloading, and power supply control functions.According to the user’s technical environment and functional requirements of the systems, based on a great deal of relevant information, a kind of new position identifying technology with testing the intensity of RF field by RFID system is presented. In this system the communications, position sensing and ID are all rolled into one. Thus it solve the problems of hopper wagon’s position identifying, communications between the wagon and the ground better. In the control system, PLC produced by GE is adopted.Automatic loading and unloading systems for the hopper wagon mainly on PLC and RFID is developed. In this thesis, the design is conducted in detail to the hardware circuit of the system, including I/O circuit of PLC, control system of power supply, RS485 bus between PLC and the tag, and the active tag and reader circuit. As to the software, the work processes and communication protocols are designed. The system can automatically recognize loading and unloading field as well as work position, and realize the automatic control logic of loading and unloading for hopper wagon with the help of RF communication between the ground beacon and onboard controller. The control logic and operational reliability all gratify the needs of the design requirements by testing the prototype trial. The successful development of the system improves the automation of bulk cargo handling.
