For displaying the geological features and phenomena intuitively and comprehensively , suggesting the geological information unknown or uncertainty, it is meaningful to carry out the research of method on three-dimensional(3D) geological modeling.The 3D geologic visual model can reproduce the underground geologic structure and stratum formation, which has great effects on the actual application of geological engineering. With the development of computer graphics technology and continuous study on Geology, 3D modeling and visualization has become an inevitable trend in geotechnical engineering as one of the computer.The research depends on the exploration project of Fengyu coal field in Ningwu country Shanxi province. The main achieved results of the research as follows.(1) IDL has been selected as the development platform after the comprehensive research of both dometic and international geological visualization softwares.(2) 3D visualization system has been developed by using surface modeling method, which has convenient interactive features ,such as rotating, scaling, translating, cutting display, profile display slice data picking and contour drawing.(3) With the help of this 3D visualization system, the 3D geological visual model of Fengyu coal field has been established.(4 ) Delaunay triangulation and 3D geologic model to FLAC programs have been developed.
