Research On Strengthening The Civic Awareness Cultivation Of Senior High School Students In“Political Life”teaching

As a modern social consciousness, civic awareness is a self-awareness about the citizen’s status in the country and it expresses as citizen’s psychology identity and rational consciousness when they serve as the country’s political、economic and legal subject. The feature and the aims of such course share the same essence with the goals of cultivation of citizens’ consciousness.Besides,the content standard in Political Life also echoes the formation factors of citizenship. Strengthening citizenship education in“political life” teaching is not only the need of high school students’ physical and mental development, but the need of educational reform and development, and above all,it’s the demand of socialist modernization. Accordingly, it generates great effects on promoting the healthy growth of high school students, leading political teachers ’professional progress and improving the level of socialist democratic development.Enhancing the cultivation of civic awareness in “political life” teaching is mainly based on Marxist Viewpoint of Citizenship、The Citizen Education in Modern Western、The Civic Virtue Theory and The Thought on All-around-development Education. In this paper, the methods of questionnaire survey and interview are used to investigate the status of high school students’ civic awareness teaching. From the results, we find that civic consciousness cultivation in “political life” teaching has begun to take effects,the teachers have also paid some attentions to it and the students’ civic awareness also begin to spring up. But there still exists many defaults. Firstly, citizenship education lacks the deserved status in “political life” teaching. Furthermore, political teachers hold a cognitive deviation on the connotation of civic awareness. Finally, high school students’ civic awareness is still relatively fragile on the whole,which extrudes strongly in the following aspects: their subject consciousness is not enough, right awareness should be strengthened, sense of obligation needs to be improved and the idea of democracy and rule、freedom and equality、fairness and justice are limited. All of those shortages result from a strong sense of traditional subject、a little political efficacy、missing the effective resultant force of education among family、school and society and the constraints of personnel training system. Meanwhile, those problems has formulated the realistic basis so that we should strengthen the cultivation of civic awareness in“political life” teaching.There are four aspects we can do to attain a mutual benefit between“political life”teaching and citizenship education. At first, we would optimize the basic text which was used to cultivate high school students’ civic awareness. It would be better for us to locate an accurate value position for “political life” and modify the text, making it become an available supporter that could develop the students’ civic awareness, then generate it and put it into practice. Secondly, we could improve teachers’ civic literacy.Enhancing their comprehensive capacity should be considered while we strengthen their theoretical quality of civic awareness. Moreover, following scientific principles, such as the “three closeness ” principle---closing to students、life and practice, heuristic principle, three-in-one principle including family、school and society and the principle of unifying cognition、faith and behavior. Finally, we should structure a teaching system which takes civic awareness education as the main line. Indeed, we should make effective integration and application to “political life”, promote students’ civic awareness transforming from cognition to behavior on the basis of “three-dimensional classroom” and establish an examination evaluation mechanism which may take the comprehensive literacy evaluation as a guiding.
