| This is an experimental study based on the theory and practice of domestic and overseas “Small Group†PE teaching model and combined with college students’ physical and mental characteristics as well as general rules of tennis teaching. It is aimed at creatively applying “Small Group†PE teaching model to general college education and investigating students’ in-class and after-class practice along with their changes concerning tennis skill, physical ability, collective self-esteem level and the opinion about the relationship between study and sports. The experiment sticks to the quintessence of “Small Group†PE teaching model, and makes teachers become the leader and students play the dominant role. It also helps develop individual and collective potentials, encourages cooperation and innovation, and improves students sports skills and physical abilities. Meanwhile, this experiment can shape students’ healthy personalities and enhance teaching effect. In the broad sense, the researcher hopes to enrich the theory of tennis teaching and thus stimulate the sustainable development of general college tennis teaching.Different research methods are adopted to meet varied requirements. The author uses literature research method—searching the library website of Soochow University and looking through relevant treatises—to collect information about the current situation and forefront of domestic and foreign researches on “Small Group†PE teaching model, based on which the basic principle and general rule of this model can be formed. The researcher also gives out questionnaires and interviews experts to collect necessary materials and data. Besides, experimental method is adopted to design two groups, one taught with traditional PE teaching model and the other “Small Groupâ€PE teaching model. And mathematical statistics is utilized to do comparative analysis.Last but not least, logical analysis is used to figure out the logical relationship among the data got after the previous steps.The major findings of the experiment are as follows: 1. “Small Group†PE teaching model can ensure that students carry out as much after-class practice as they do in class;2. This model can improve students’ tennis skills to a large extent; 3. This model can strengthen students’ physical abilities; 4. The model can help lift students’ collective self-esteem level; 5. It can create positive thoughts of students about the relationship between their study and sports. And the followings are a few practical suggestions: 1.“Small Group†PE teaching model can be advocated in general college tennis optional courses; 2. PE teachers are advised to pay attention to collective formation in their courses; 3. PE teachers are suggested to cultivate student leaders in tennis optional courses; 4. PE teachers are supposed to give guidance to students on how to conduct a comprehensive evaluation; 5. It will be beneficial for PE teachers to dig into and have creative ideas on this model. |
