As the fast developing of American higher education,it also made Remarkable achievements in the field of scientific research. American university produced massive number of Nobel prizewinners.lt is not only because of the strong academic atmosphere, also owe to the compensation system which is higher efficient and flexible.American compensation system is characterized with highly developed marketization,a competitive salary levels,a reasonable compensation structure and a humanized welfare system.Actually,a multivariate compensation structure which combines the direct compensation and indirect compensation is adapt by US universities.Nevertheless,universities also equipped with a complete welfare system and retirement system.It can ensure the rights of the faculty.A Compensation Committee is set out for manage the whole compensation affairs.It takes responsibility of the formulation, development and guidance which adapt to the academic development of universities and compensation policies which meets the needs of the interests of university development,those compensation plan and strategy, can attract,retain and motivate and configuration of human resources.The way of compensation system making is efficient and keep pace with The times.Contract Compensation System and Single Salary Schedule is the two major systems in US universities.CSS determine the individual compensation according to the education level of the faculty, work experience, academic achievements such as expected annual output, by negotiating with individual teacher.It reflected the advantage of its own structure, give full play to the teacher’s personal advantage.However universities which use SSS sets faculty salary by ranking it shows the concept of "equal pay for equal work" American society.In this paper, the American university faculty compensation system is our main study and discussion topics, the literature method, comparison method, and case analysis and other methods are used in this study.First we define compensation and its related concept,and then discusses the evolutionary history of American university faculty compensation system, longitudinal analysis on the historical development, admiral horizontal main current society, comparing the two systems on the basis of this paper expounds the advantages and disadvantages of both stsyems.We also Analysis of the influential factors and the characteristics of the compensation system and take prestigious university as example to study.At last aims at existing in the management shortage of faculty compensation system in China such as the market salary adjustment effect is not obvious, and lack of competitiveness, unreasonable structure of compensation, welfare and security system is not sound and make a summary.Based on the characteristics of American faculty compensation system targeted countermeasures are put forward:first but not lest, Give full play to the regulatory role of the market,clear all levels of university of different positions and different levels of the university teachers’salaries;Secondly Improve the level of compensation, give full play to the guiding role of the market, establish a multi-channel financing system.Third, improve the unreasonable salary structure, should raise the proportion of basic salary, weaken the post wage and pay salary.Fourth, improve the welfare system, establish and improve the staff welfare plan, improve the teachers’salaries of the non-monetary compensation and welfare system suited to the characteristics of the teachers themselves.At present faculty compensation system in China is still in developing stage. Research on university faculty compensation system in the United States, can deepen the reform of personnel system and compensation system in colleges and universities in China, the stable teacher troop, arouse the enthusiasm of university staff and innovation, improve teachers’quality, ensure the quality of talent cultivation, sustaining the school’s development and competition ability, has important theoretical and practical significance.
