Abstract/Summary:
Carrying out PE optional teaching in the high school has been a substantial measure in the PE curriculum reform, acting as both an important highlight and a difficulty. The high schools in the Fengtai District have conducted PE optional teaching for a relatively short time compared with its traditional PE teaching pattern. Moreover, whether the objective and requirement of the New English Curriculum have been achieved? Whether the students’ physical health have been improved? Therefore, with the entry point of the current situation of the optional teaching of sports and healthy class in the high schools in the Fengtai District, investigations have been conducted from different angles to learn about the current situation of the development in the PE optional teaching at school. By adopting the methods of questionnaire survey, documentary, interview and mathematical statistics, analysis on the factors affecting the launching of PE option teaching at school and the relevant advices will be given in the end.The research on the PE optional teaching in the high schools in the Fengtai District of Beijing finds that:1. The faculty at this stage have basically met the requirements of carryingout PE optional teaching. However, significant difference still existsin both the structure of teachers’ distribution of majors as well as thecourses chosen by students.2. Generally speaking, sports facilities as well as field and equipment arenot able to perfectly meet the requirements to carry out optional teaching.The demonstration schools, however, are significantly better than otherschools.3. Major differences can be found between the courses offered by most schoolsand the choices made by students.4. In the respect of teaching organization and management, most schools havedone well in teaching in divided classes, adjustment cycle of programs,and publicity and introductions before dividing students into classes bytheir interests.5. The evaluation criteria and evaluation method of the classes of optionteaching should be improved as well. Among them, there’s a gap betweenthe evidence of teachers’ evaluation and the evaluation methods thatstudents like. Therefore, the traditional result-oriented evaluationmethod should be improved, and more attention should be focused on theprocess evaluation in order to mobilize the initiative of the studentsand tap their potential.
