Lifelong education is a concept which is advocated in modern society. Career education, whose recipients are all individuals in the society, is the implement of lifelong education, and it will affect one’s whole life. The recipients of general high school education are teenagers, they are in an important period of forming correct outlooks on the world, life and values. They have two outlets after graduation:1. Getting a job after taking professional knowledge in colleges and universities.2. Getting a job directly. Here we can say that the purpose of general high school education is not only to prepare students some knowledge for their further study, but also foster their relevant vocational abilities. Therefore, carrying out career education in general high school is imperative under such a circumstance.High school biology class is an important part of high school curriculum in our country. Part of the commission of general high school education is to develop student’s scientific literacy and humanistic spirit, innovative spirit and practical ability, international perspective and national spirit, social responsibility and life planning skills, which will be of great importance in the prosperity of nation, progress of society and development of individual. However, as a teacher, I know by my own experience that, instead of laying stress on developing student’s life planning skill, the main focus of general high school education lies in teaching them how to acquire knowledge efficiently and how to increase their scores, which is caused by college entrance examination system whose basis right is the examination score.This article is trying to know the characters of carrying out career education in high school of our country, by studying the current situation of career education both in Chinese and American high school; to give some advises about how to infiltrate career education into high school biology class, by analyzing and comparing contents about career education in three versions of high school biology textbooks:People’s Education Press Edition (three compulsory volumes), Jiangsu Education Edition (three compulsory volumes), Biology:The Dynamics of Life(three volumes, American high school textbook).Main conclusion:It is urgent to carry out career education in high school of our country. It is feasible to carry out career education in high school biology class. Materials about career education in PEP edition are diversified in presentation and methodical in arrangement, but the coverage of occupational categories needs to be optimized. Contents about career education in JSE edition are not so many and detailed. Contents about career education in American high school textbook Biology:The Dynamics of Life are rich, varied, diversified in presentation and well permeated in teaching students moral things like emotion, attitude and value, therefore, it is of great reference to us.In the specific implementation process, combined with the characteristics of high school education in China, we can take a variety of ways of carrying out career education. In school, we can make use of optional courses, class meetings and holiday social practices, or organize some lectures by inviting some successful people to communicate with students. We can also ask parents to take part in their child’s career education, so as to build a close relationship between school,society and family. With the collaborative cooperation of three parties, it is better and easier to improve students’ life planning ability.
