| In the 1980s, the theory of task-based approach appeared, which was influential to the English language teaching and learning. English Curriculum Standard strives to engage students in the activities through observation, imitation, experience, exploration and presentation. In this way, it is helpful to develop their abilities to cooperate, reason, and think. The curriculum advocates task-based learning in English classroom teaching. It emphasizes that product and process are equally important. In the process of teaching, the students can obtain achievements by completing different kinds of tasks under the guidance of the teacher. Writing, one of the language skills, is a continual process to exchange the ideas and feelings with the most effective and suitable language. So it is of great importance and challenge. To improve the writing ability can be beneficial to the development of the learners’ability in language application. For the purpose, the students should be involved in the class activities to practice and experience by themselves. Writing is also the most difficult skill to master. It results from many reasons. Large class sizes, the current test format and the neglect of the writing skill lead to the present situation of writing teaching. Teachers just pay their attention to the writing pieces of the students instead of focusing on the process of the writing and the students’interest in English writing. And the traditional teacher-centered teaching method still has a deep negative influence on writing. Therefore, it is urgent to change the current situation of English writing teaching and to improve the students’writing skill. The effective way is to advocate the learner-centered teaching approach instead of the traditional one. This study aims to arouse the middle school students’interest in English writing and to improve their English writing proficiency by using task-based approach in writing teaching. With the model, the students can get enough comprehensive input and output when they complete the activities before writing. The program that lasted for a term was applied on one hundred students of Grade Eight. The results of the program show that task-based teaching approach in writing can arouse the subjects’ writing interest and promote their English writing proficiency obviously. Consequently, their comprehensive language competence can be developed greatly.. |
