The English teaching method of the combination of listening and reading in the upper grade can effectively improve the current English teaching and overcome some shortcomings, such as lack of teaching reading, low teaching efficiency, the lack of participation and other issues, to help students better understand the content of reading material, to develop the group reading habits and the ability to correctly read the reading material. The proper usage of combining listening and reading need the focus on the three stage of teaching reading strategies: the strategy of activating background before reading, gradually strengthening to promote reading and expansion in the post-reading stage. In the pre-reading stage, teachers should choose the suitable listening material to activate the background after clearly making the teaching goals and timely give the feedback. During the While Reading Stage, teacher can use innovative listening and reading tasks to gradually promote reading, and timely feedback. After reading, teachers can edit the listening and reading material to strengthen the mandate and encourage the implementation of parallel feedback and correction.This paper is divided into five chapters: The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the background and significance, research status in and abroad and research content. The second chapter is about the related concept of the study, and the main problems in reading class in Grade 5 and Grade 6 in primary school. The third chapter is mainly about the teaching strategies in teaching English reading in Grade 5 and Grade 6 in primary school and the proposal of three basic strategies. Chapter IV is the proposal of the basic ways to reading teaching, combined the reading teaching using the listening material with TPR method and other three categories. The fifth chapter is a summary and outlook, a brief summary of the main points of this article, and describes the deficiency and the thought of further study. The innovation of this paper is to explore the rich educational value and combine it with teaching reading, and put forward operable and practical teaching application strategy, optimize the traditional teaching of English reading in primary school, which provide a driving force to reading teaching.
