Due to the reform and opening-up, the transformation from the planned economy to the socialist market economic, and the status change of higher education from the edge to the center of the society, the scale of higher education in China has been expanding unceasingly and beginning to receive widespread attention. In this context, the traditional professional titles system in university which fits in the economic system has exposed its disadvantages:the life-long tenure, confusing valuation with employment, equalitarianism of distribution, promoting by seniority and so on. Although the university teachers’ professional title reform since the late 1980s has achieved some positive performance, but it is still far from satisfactory. On the one hand, the model of appointment system was initially formed, but even the colleges and universities that have claimed the implementation are still beset with difficulties; on the other hand, the incentive function of the university teachers’professional title reform is highlighted gradually, but problem are still there:to some degree, the deviation of incentive and over-emphasis on the output and efficiency of scientific research contributed to the extension of some undesirable phenomena in the field of higher education, such as academic bubble, academic corruption, over-emphasizing research and neglecting teaching. And these phenomena lead academic development goes off track.In order to get rid of the old disadvantages and prevent the emergence of new problems and contradictions, the titles system needs to be intensively researched. Up to now, the research of titles system reform is focused on Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University and other universities directly under the Ministry of Education, the study of local universities is relatively lacking. The titles system reform of the universities directly under the Ministry of Education can provide guideline and helpful reference for the reform of the local universities, but they are not always applicable. Local universities titles reform has its own uniqueness. So the study of the titles system of local universities has a wider promotional value.This thesis explores the change, function, value orientation, performance and defects of the teachers’ titles system of domestic universities and draws on the useful experience of the titles system of American universities. And built upon these, this thesis focuses on the study of the constitution of teachers’ titles system in a local university(talent quantitative evaluation system, title evaluation system, evaluation system after employed and competitive employment mechanism), analyses the whole thought, historical evolution of its titles system reform, considers the performance of its title system, and provides some valuable methods and references for further improvement and development of the titles system in local university.
