Recent years, in China, especially in Xinjiang, the high incidence of violent terror activities brought great threat to people’s life and property safety, and also influenced social stability of Xinjiang and our country in some degree. When people all over the world are combating with all kinds of terrorist activities, more and more scholars and experts began to consider the reasons that lead to the terror activities. Before, many scholars tend to think that poverty leads to the terrorist attacks. However, looking from the terror activities prone areas in world, the economical development of Xinjiang and the ranking of people’s living level in the whole country, the theory that poverty leads to the terror activities isn’t right any more. Nowadays, more and more experts begin to study its root reasons from the angle of politics and culture, and most of these experts tend to culture. Domestic and foreign experience and studies show that the degree of cultural identity between different nations has high correlation with its level of national harmony and the stability degree of pluralistic society. Then, what’s the basis of stability in Xinjiang? And what is about the degree of cultural identity among all nationalities in Xinjiang? And what is about the degree of cultural identity of college students who stand for modern culture? Based on this, the paper plans to explore the situation of cultural identity among all nationalities in Xinjiang by using the first-hand survey data and the tools of quantitative analysis. The study unfolds according to the following content:The first part is an introduction which is the basic framework of this paper and literature review. The basic framework mainly introduces cultural identity’s research background, significance, content and methods. The literature review mainly gives a brief review of domestic and abroad research results about cultural identity and makes some comments, determining the connotation, influence factors and measurement methods of cultural identity.The second part is the theoretical analysis of cultural identity. Firstly, it introduces the main thought, application of iceberg theory and enlightenment to the article. Based on this, the article builds the iceberg system of cultural identity, which including the building of overt system, recessive system and interactive system, so as to build the basis for the measurement of cultural identity in Xinjiang.The third part is to obtain the data. This part includes the design and optimizing of the questionnaire, the obtaining of data, and reliability-test. Through the obtaining of data, the article builds the basis for the measurement of cultural identity situation.The forth part is the measurement of cultural identity situation. This part mainly uses the simple description statistics and cross analysis to measure the situation, in order to reveal the situation and differences of cultural identity.The fifth part is the measurement of cultural identity influence factors. This part is the key of the paper and builds the SEM of cultural identity influence factor according to iceberg theory, in order to look for the overt factors and recessive factors and the same points and differences of cultural identity among different nations so as to look for the basis of building the harmonious society.The last part is conclusions and suggestion. The empirical study shows that the degree of cultural identity among nationalities in Xinjiang is very different. Cultural identity of Han is higher nearly 22% than minorities; The overt factors of Han respondents’ cultural identity are language and national identity, in which language is the main influence factor, and ethnic identity is the secondary factor, but the influence of religious beliefs and customs is not obvious, while, national identity has forward direction influence to religious beliefs and language, but has no influence to customs, and the influence of religious beliefs to customs is not obvious; the influence factors of minorities’ cultural identity are customs, religious beliefs and ethnic identity, in which customs is the main factor, and ethnic and religious belief are the secondary factors, but the influence of language is not significant, national identity has forward direction influence to the other three parts, but the influence of religious beliefs to customs is not obvious. In view of above results, the main and common factor that influences the degree of ethic cultural identity in Xinjiang is ethnic identity, while custom has great effect on the degree of minorities’ cultural identity. Based on this, this article puts forward that innovating education mode and building harmonious foundation; weakening national identity and strengthening civic consciousness; respecting ethnic customs and building harmonious society.
