Map with image and abstract unified function, is an important tool in geography teaching and learning. Learn to read the map, culture geography ability to interpret the maps, consistent with the requirements of the new curriculum standards of teaching. Junior middle school students is in the image thinking to abstract thinking transition period, is the initial stage of map learning system. In order to map as the breakthrough point, is helpful to arouse the students’interest in learning geography, overcome geographical "difficulty" psychological, establish learning geography confidence. Therefore, based on the analysis of cartography, pedagogy and psychology theory and other literature data, using the method of questionnaire and interview, combined, from family, school students, three junior high school students ability to interpret the maps on the status of the investigation and analysis. Results:factors found to interpret the maps ability of junior middle school students influence not only in the student own quality, family factors, school environment map knowledge learning map knowledge teaching environment and the quality of teachers and the society for the map learning attention on cultivating the ability to interpret the maps also have an important influence on the. Accordingly, from four aspects of student, family, school and society presents students should consciously cultivate map learning awareness, family should actively create map learning environment, the school should make great efforts to improve the map learning conditions, society should strengthen the map learning attention related countermeasures and suggestions. Hope that through the parties together, and create the conditions for interpret the maps to improve the ability of junior middle school students, and ultimately contribute to the lifelong development.
