Research On The Open EdX Multi-language Support And Localization Technology

edX platform is a free online course project, initially founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,whose main intention is to work with world-class colleges and universities together to create a shared platform for education,with the aim to enhance the quality of teaching,promote the network online education.Up to now more than nine hundred thousand people have registered.In order to improve the quality of teaching and inspire students’ passion in learning,Xinjiang Agricultural University need to transplant edX platform well to our own servers,the entire online open courses in Chinese simplified link must be displayed so that the students in Xinjiang Agricultural University can take courses without any limitation to time,space or language.Therefore,the focus of this paper is:to localize edX platform.The main focus of this paper has two aspects,the first of which is to complete the Chinese Simplified localization edX platform that allows teachers and students to be language-independent, and not limited to time and space to complete teaching and learning.Secondly,as we all know,Xinjiang is a multi-ethnic region,so it is of great importance to offer cultural pluralism of course.Therefore,in order to allow more minority students to be able to use their native language online learning,we have realized Uyghur in this Simplified Chinese localization based on localization,Kazakh language and other minority languages as well."Introduction to the Python interactive programming" on a network open class Xinjiang Agricultural University,in the "MOOC for XJAU" website has been completed successfully.Students can learn in their mother tongue without time and space limitations on the Internet,not only to stimulate students’ enthusiasm for learning,but also to get students interested in programming.Meanwhile,localizations of Uighur,Kazakh languages and other minority languages have also satisfied the needs of the students who are weak in Chinese.They can learn and communicate better in their own mother tongue.
