John Locke, is the British philosopher, educator and politician in 17th century.He not only created empiricism,but also comprehensively elaborated the idea of constitutional democracy and made an important contributions in philosophy,politics and education domain.The thesis takes the scientific research on Locke’s liberal education as the object of the study, and made a more systematic exposition for Locke’s liberal education’s theoretical basis, connotation and the main content.The first part of the thesis mainly introduces Lock’s life.works and social activity. Locke’s home environment,educational background and grown experience,especially political events and educational activities, are related to Locke’s liberal education.Part2 actively explores Locke’s liberty value.Locke’s liberty value mainly contains the conception of being are born free,right of freedom.First, it criticizes "man is not born free" of Fillmer and Hobbes" absolute power of the monarch",in order to further elicit the talent freedom doctrine;and on the basis of above view,it comprehensive analysis Locke’s liberal education’s theoretical basis is right of freedom from the meaning,the limitation and the status of freedom; and finally analyses the connotation of by exploring the relevance of politics and education.Part3 focuses on the content of Locke’s liberal education thought. It mainly involves the training of physical moral and cultural knowledge.From the physical education, it focuses on the formation and exercise of children’s body and makes children have a healthy body filling with energy. On moral education, it emphasis the restraint of the desire through the guide of reason, and cultivate children’s good virtues and proper etiquette.On the concept of intellectual education,it stresses that learning is the aid of moral education in a secondary position,and teaching the actual useful knowledge and skills is the teaching content.Part4 summarizes the impact and the evaluation of Locke’s liberal education. It analysis the progressive and the limitation of the thought.
