XueJi, which is the earliest monograph in the history of world education with most comprehensive system, is a summary of Chinese ancient education workers’experience. It comprehensively and systematically expounds the educational work with extensive and profound content. The educational thought in the book has a profound impact on the construction of modern educational theory and teaching reform. Especially it’s educational principle and method, which is not only incisive in content but also with practical guiding significance in the contemporary teaching.This article analyzes the eight teaching principles and three teaching methods in XueJi and combines with the actual mathematics teaching in guiding the teaching of high school function. The eight principles include learning while teaching, combining the in-class activity with after-class activity, preventing the bad from happening in advance, telling the students what to do in time, step-by-step learning, cooperative learning, discovery learning and being good at discovering the advantages and disadvantages of the students. The three teaching methods are explanations, questions and answers and practices.Through the study of teaching principles and methods in XueJi, I would like to use the above principles and methods in actual teaching and try my best to realize the guiding role of the book. I hope to make a new exploration in secondary mathematics teaching and improve the teaching effect through this study. At the same time, I would like to let more people know XueJi, inherit and develop the precious historical heritage of education and inject new vitality to the book.
