The Study On Cultivating College Students’ Public Spirit At The Present Times

Modern public areas have extended greatly with the development of globalization, thesoundness of the democracy and the legal system, the development of market economy andthe innovation of information technologies in the media. Civil society is the soil of the publicspirit. Modern public spirit is a basic moral, value and practice to encircle national andsociety in the civil society. It includes a series of basic value proposition: Democracy, theRule of Law, Justice, Equality, Freedom, Order, Public Interest and Responsible. The publicspirit includes subject and independence consciousness, public awareness and publicparticipation. The psychological characteristics of the modern college students are the causeof subject and independence consciousness of Independence, Democracy, Right and Criticize.But their public awareness is wake and the degree and rationality of public participation islow. The cultivation objectives are to improve moral quality, to integrate into public lifeactively and to participate in public affairs effectively. It promotes students’ free andcomprehensive development and advances the process of political democratization. Itpractices socialist’s core value and etc.The article analysis the present conditions of modern college students’ public spiritthrough questionnaire of300undergraduates in Nanjing University of Technology. They have subject consciousness, right consciousness, value consciousness, cooperation consciousnessand environmental protection consciousness on the basis of analyzing students’ public spiritin our and other institutions of higher learning. But their public consciousness, public moral,public participation and public attention are insufficient. The reasons are insufficient ofself-education, moral education in the family, the education in the school, and the socialenvironment and practice in the public area and etc.We can use America, Germany and Japan for reference. We can also learn fromconstruction of class, culture and social forces’ integration in Nanjing University ofTechnology, The cultivation approaches include full range of civic education of oneself,family, school and society, social practice of students’ association, cyber politics andvolunteer service, management of dormitory, class and school’s system, culture andenvironment and social organization and the democratic and legal system. It cultivatesconscious of self-discipline, practice, democracy and values of collectivism and legal and etc.
