The Study Approaches Of The Training Of Undergraduates’ Public Spirit

Public spirit is an important embodiment of evaluating the populace’s cultivationand social morality. It can also measure the degree of nationality civilization. In modernchina，with the development of modernization， people’s social life is more and morepublicized. In the mean time，with the promotion of networking，industrialization andurbanization，public space is expanding gradually, so people’s public activities arebecoming more frequently. As a learning group which has wider knowledge, youngcollege students have come to the stage of undertaking the responsibility of lives. Thedegree of public spirit of them involves how to bear the historical mission and，to acertain extent, it will guide the social value orientation in the following decades.This essay is meant to discuss the modern connotation of public spirit from theview of public management and to explain the main contents of public spirit from theaspects of thought, emotion and behavior, covering the spirit of patriotism, democraticrules, fairness and justice, sense of responsibility, sense of integrity and gratitude, senseof cooperation, the spirit of independent personality, social morality consciousness,self-control and self-discipline consciousness and consciousness of devotion andserving others. The author conducted a survey among2000college students in Wuxi,rendering the characteristics and problems of the present situation of college students’public spirit. They have strong subjective consciousness; They focus on personalinterests and lack of rational knowledge; They play safe and judge things ideally; Theyare patriotic, but lack in social responsibility; Their ability of cooperation, consultationand participation of public affairs needs improving; Their ideas are relativelyindependent; They pursue perfect personality and mean to be accepted by the society.In view of the present situation, the author analyzes the cause of the system and points out that the traditional culture, family education, school education and the societymay affect college students. And from the view point of management and education, theauthor discusses some methods to cultivate the public spirits of college students. Theauthor suggests that we improve students’ cognition of public spirit, decorate thecampus environment, cultivate and promote college students’ public spirit consciousnessand enrich the college activities. Moreover, we should regulate undergraduates’ publicspirit cultivation with the help of the functional institutions and broaden the socialpublic space, and improve college students’ public spirit sphere.
