At present, the general existing problems in English teaching are short of necessary language environment. Applying situational teaching to construct the atmosphere of English teaching and create learning circumstance is one of English learning forms. Situational teaching is an efficient teaching method, which has aroused students’learning interest and activated the English teaching class. But there are still some matters in the practice of Junior Middle School English situational teaching so that situational teaching can’t play its role.This paper is composed of six chapters. Chapter1is introduction. In this chapter, the writer introduces the background, the purpose, significance and the outline of the thesis. In chapter2the writer discusses the history and research status of situational teaching at home and abroad. In recent years, the study of English situational teaching at home and abroad is becoming more and more. The situational teaching research abroad mainly focused on the implementation of the standards or principles of situational teaching in English teaching, or the development of situational teaching material. By comparison, the majority research at home discusses how the situational teaching method is applied to each discipline. And the research about the situational teaching method in English class mainly includes the strategies of creating a scene, principles and methods of how to use situational teaching in the English class, or how to improve student’s ability to control language knowledge and language skills, etc. Among them, research on the problems of situational teaching in English class is relatively rare. In chapter3, the writer carries through academic research of situational teaching to make clear the definition, principles, the theoretical basis and measures of situational teaching. Chapter4is the investigation about the current situation of Situational Teaching. Firstly the author gives a brief introduction to Guolutan Junior Middle School, and then introduces the cases of the school applying Situational Teaching. At last the author sets Guolutan Junior Middle School in Gushi as an example and analyzes the Situational Teaching in English class through questionnaire, interview and class observation. From the result of this investigation we can see that, although the teachers have acquired great achievements through the application of situational teaching, they still have some problems in situation design, situational teaching process and method, situational teaching assessment. In the fifth chapter, the thesis puts forward a few suggestions to improve situational teaching. The last chapter is the conclusion. In this chapter, the conclusion of the research is carefully drawn first. Then the limitations and suggestions for the future research of this study are honestly proposed.Situational Teaching Method has brought students successful experience and enhanced the confidence of learning. And it also brings teacher new challenges and motivation. We hope our research will make English teachers have a more comprehensive and profound understanding of Situational Teaching. So it can better optimize our English teaching.
