Listening ability is an important index of students' English comprehensive ability.Listening teaching is the most important way to improve students' listening ability.But,for a long time,there are many disadvantages existing in the traditional English listening teaching method in our country.For example,in the classroom teaching,teachers pay more attention to the explanation of language knowledge,ignoring the creation of the language atmosphere.As a result,students will find English listening class boring and and gradually lose interest in learning English listening.How to improve English listening teaching efficiency of junior middle schools to satisfy students' needs problem that troubles English teachers in Junior Middle School.The Situational Teaching Method is based on Constructivist learning theory and Krashen's second language acquisition hypothesis.Teachers apply it to create a real or semi-real language environment within the teaching content to lead students into teaching activities actively instead of the role of listeners or bystanders.The Situational Teaching Method has the features of vividness and intuitiveness,which can greatly mobilize students' English learning enthusiasm.Therefore,this paper aims to study on the effectiveness and feasibility of applying the Situational Teaching Method to English listening teaching in junior middle schools.The research intends to answer the following three questions:1.Will the Situational Teaching Method in English listening class enhance students' learning motivation of listening in junior middle school?2.Will the Situational Teaching Method in English listening class increase students vocabulary acquisition ability of English listening?3.Will the Situational Teaching Method in English listening class improve English listening achievements of junior middle school students?During the experiment,the author chooses 89 students as the subjects.They are from Class 1 and Class 4 in grade three in No.1 middle school of Panjin.Between the two classes,class 1 is experimental class which adopts the Situational Teaching Method in English listening class,and class 4 is control class that applies traditional teaching method in English listening class.By comparing the results of questionnaires and tests,and recording the content of interview,the effectiveness of the Situational Teaching Method in teaching would be investigated.The experimental data are obtained by qualitative andquantitative methods,such as two questionnaires,two listening vocabulary test,two listening tests and an interview,and the data are compared and analyzed through SPSS software 17.0.The results of the data analysis indicate that the application of Situational Teaching Method to listening teaching can not only enhance students' motivation to learning listening,increase students' listening vocabulary acquisition ability,at the same time improve their listening scores.Situational Teaching Method is effective for English listening teaching in junior middle schools.
