Improving the quality of education has now become a global topic. To reach this purpose,effective teaching is the key point. Effective teaching refers to obeying teaching rules, usingless input and getting more output during the interaction between teachers and students whilecarrying out teaching activities. In this way, students are able to study positively. So under thebackground of another round of educational revolution, effective teaching is sure to be theguidance and pursuit in high school teaching. Regional geography takes up a large part andplays a key role in high school geography. After looking through the geography problems inNCEE, I found that most of the questions are based on regional geography, especiallystressing the knowledge of region. Therefore, discussing the effective teaching of regionalgeography in senior high has an important and practical meaning in improving the quality ofgeography teaching. In this paper, I discuss the meanings of effective teaching,andsummarize the features and affected elements basing on the background of the new courserevolution and combining the standard of new the course. According to the contents andpurposes of regional geography in senior high, I designed questionnaire and carried out asurvey. From the results of the survey, I analyze and conclude the major problems in highschool regional geography teaching. And the major problems are as follows. The first one isthe teaching purpose of3D geography teaching is hard to reach. Besides, the teachingmethods are kind of simple and not scientific, which make students lose their interest in study.What’s more, the teachers care more about the teaching itself rather than pay more attention tostudents. To solve these problems, I put forward practical strategies based on the new coursestandard, constructivism theory and system theory. At the end of this paper, I example on theMiddle East Region to analyze how to practice effective teaching and inspire students’studying passion, wishing to work on the improving of senior high geography teaching qualityeffectively.
