Research On Democratic Education Thought Of Tao Xingzhi

Tao Xingzhi was not only a famous educator in our country but also a prominent democratic fighters and patriot. He devoted his life to China’s education cause, carried out abundant teaching practice and had formed many education theories and education thoughts. The thought of democratic education is the sublimation of Tao Xingzhi’s educational thought and it has important value of research.This paper uses the methods of literature analysis and historical analysis to study of Tao Xingzhi’s democratic education thought. The article is divided into four parts to discuss:The first part introduces Tao Xingzhi’s whole life and major origins of his democratic education thought. It mainly introduces Tao Xingzhi’s learning experience and series of education activities when he returned home. It helps us grasp its tone of democratic education thought. Then it analyzes the origins of his democratic education thought which lie in the inheritance and development of traditional criticism, modern Chinese patriotic ideas of social reform thought, the western democratic thought and marxist thought.The second part focuses on the democratic ideal and the ideal citizen of Tao Xingzhi’s expectation. He hoped to establish a democratic, equal and philanthropic republic. The public was eager to learn, shared with others, had autonomy ability and creative spirit.The third part discusses the implementation of Tao Xingzhi’s democratic education thought. In the perspective of the students, principals, administrators and teachers expound how they form a democratic school. The democratic education should learn from the democratic life, based on the collective life, pay attention to the cultivation of creativity and the comprehensive development of human beings. It requires people to learn autonomy and understand how to learn.The fourth part mainly discusses the inspirations of Tao Xingzhi’s democratic education thought. Tao Xingzhi’s democratic education thought has important enlightenment to cultivate democratic citizen, promote democratic education and speed up current process of the construction of democratic politics. Specifically, on the basis of Tao Xingzhi’s democratic education thoughts, we should establish democratic and equal education relationship, attach importance to autonomy to improve the effectiveness of autonomy, liberate students to enhance the creativity of students, learn democracy in the democratic practice.
