Tao Xingzhi is a great educator. His ideas are the wealth of human education.Scholars study his ideas to try to excavate the essence part to help the contemporaryeducation reform. Undergraduates are the future of our country, and their ideological andpolitical quality relates to the quality of builders and successors in our country, relates tothe grand goal of China’s socialist modernization, relates to our position in nations.Although we have made a real achievement in current ideological and political education,a variety of problems still exists. This paper use the beneficial aspects of Tao’s LivingEducation theory to try to change the present situation of the undergraduates’ ideologicaland political education and to further enhance the effectiveness of ideological andpolitical education. This paper is divided into three parts.The first part is about the summary of Tao’s Living Education theory, which firstanalyzes the social background of Tao’s Living Education theory, including politicalbackground, economic background and cultural background, and then discusses theideological basis of Tao’s Living Education theory from three aspects--politicalphilosophy, philosophy, education thoughts. And discusses the intentions anddistinguishing features of Tao’s Living Education theory.The second part is about the meaning of learning from Tao’s Living Educationtheory. Although we have made a real achievement in the undergraduates’ currentideological and political education, and their ideological and political quality hasimproved a lot, a variety of problems still exists. The problems are showed in the content,which separates from the student’s actual life; ignoring the actual experience; givingpriority to classroom instead of society. However, learning from Tao’s Living Educationtheory can enhance the effectiveness of ideological and political education and promoteundergraduates’ comprehensive development.The third part is the specific parts about learning from Tao’s theory that is toimprove the content of education and make it keep close to students’ needs because hesaid that life is education, to reform the teaching place and make it related with lifebecause he said society is school, to change the teaching methods and make it related withstudents’ experience because he said that we should combine Teaching with students’ experience.
