Motivation is an desire that it can promote people to do some activities and make everything go directly as people have been hoping for. In study field, this kind of motive is called learning motivation. It can inspire students to study hard. And it is also an important factor to achieve great success in study. Nowadays, China values quality-oriented education. Art education has received more and more attention and much more high school students have decided to choose music as their major. What is the initial motivation for the high school student choosing music as their major? What kind of motivation can encourage students to study during their music learning? Are there some differences and similarities in music learning motivation between different grades? How is their learning effectiveness? For educators, if they know the learning motivation of students,they can inspire students to study effectively and reach a good mark.After a great deal of collecting information and studying the academic literature, I nearly can’t find out some academic literature about music learning motivation of high students whose major are music. The purpose of this study is to understand the music learning motivation of high school students whose major are music. According to the relative theory in learning motivation and combination with the study features of music specialized courses,the writer designed a questionnaire. Research these students’music learning motivation by the questionnaire and the factors which will be having influence on their study process. The results show that the surveyed students’internal motivation is higher than the external motivation. And different grade students have different tendency in music learning motivation. This study has analyzed the factors which influence on the formation of music learning motivation by talking with the students and classroom observation.The thesis is divided into six sections:The first part is an introduction. It describes the research background, purpose and research questions. The second part is a literature review. The third part is the research method, including the subjects of study as well as thresearch process. The fourth part is the research result, including a descriptive statistics and the characteristics of motivation. The fifth part is the conclusion of study, which is to compare the motivation of different grades. The sixth part is to suggest the further study with regards to the perspectives of develping the learning motivations.
