Research objectives:In order to put the course standard of sports and health into practice, based on the foreign Sport Education Model, the characteristics of the baskatball, the mental abilities and characteristics of high school students(level five), the thesis attempts to organize a cpmpetition teaching model. With the teaching experiment carried out in the selected basketabll class in high school, the study tries to enable the students improve the skills of basketabll playing, the interests of basketball learning and the teamwork spirit building, which contribute to the reform in high school phycial class teaching.Methodology: By using the method of document, questionnaire, teaching experiment, mathematical statistics and logical analysis, the experiment was carried out in No.9 middle school, Hangzhou. Two classes are selected randomly as the experimental class and control class. Each of them has 32 students in the class, all of who are male students. The teaching experiment is the main method used in this thesis. The competition teaching model is adopted in the experimantal class and the traditional teaching model is adopted in the control class. The duration of the teaching experiment is a school year, which will be carried out into 62 classes. The teachers, teaching contents, number of the classes, sport yards and other exercise equipments are kept at the same level before and after the experiment to retain the consistency. In addition, The physical quality, basketball skills, interests of basketball and teamwork spirits building of every students are measured and collected before and after the experiment.The SPSS 17.0 software is used and a paired- sample t test is made to analysis the result of the experimentcal class and contorl class.Research results:(1) Competition teaching model and traditional teaching model can significantly improve students’ speed, endurence and strength in promoting physical quality, but the effect of competition teaching model is larger than that of traditional teching model.(2) Competition teaching model and traditional teaching model can both improve students’ basketball skills and there is no significant difference in the improvement of individual skill. But in combination skill, the experimental class improves more quickly. Besides the performance of experimential class is better than that of control class in the on-the-spot practical application of basketball skills. Thus we can make the conclusion that competition teaching model can effectively imporove students’ on-the-spot practical basketball skills.(3) Students in the experimental class have significant improvements in the aspect of learning interests, however, students in the control class have no obvious change in shorts.(4)Students in the experimental class make significant improvements on the cordiality performance and spirit of cooperation. Again, there is no obvious change in students of the control class.Suggestions: Competition teaching model can be extended and applied in sports teaching, however, the following four aspects must be carefully considered. Firstly, the competition teaching model is suitable for students who possess some sports foundations, cognitive capabilities together with some autonomous learning abilities. Secondly, the times of competitions must be well controlled, and the summary and reflection after class should be paid attention to. Thirdly, the formation and establishment of the classroom routine should be focused on during the initial stage of implementation. Fourthly, the quality of the selection of teaching group and group leader must be ensured.
