Due to the current rural remaining Family was born in China’s social transition period, it has some special properties. With the development of city modernization and industrialization, the number of rural remaining Family grow rapidly and it brings a huge of social problems and becomes the most obvious social status of China. Because of the incompletion of the family structure of the rural remaining Family, parts of the family function are lost, for instance, function of providing for the aged, function of emotional comfort and function of education. Besides, the decrease in family income due to youth labor left becomes the main reason to trouble the rural remaining Family. How to solve the current predicament of rural remaining Family turns into urgent, and many experts think that social support may become the effective way to solve this problem.This paper analyzes rural remaining families and social support for them through some sociology theories. Meanwhile, The author finds that researches on social support all treat it as one-way given process, rather than an interactive process. Most of them start research from the perspective of social support as subject, ignore the subject status on recipient of social support and its initiative. Because of this reality, the author believes that an effective social support must be based on an interaction between subject and object. Therefore, the author introduces symbolic interaction theory into research of rural remaining family and social support. On the one hand, social support is a social exchange, so that it must be an exchange interaction between the two sides; on the other hand, because behind the interaction between rural remaining family and the outside world is the interaction between two cultures, the actual cultural interaction is the interaction between symbols.This paper consists of the following parts:The first chapter is an introduction, mainly introducing the background of this study, significance, theoretical foundation and research methods. Second chapter provides an overview of the survey sample, social needs of rural remaining family and support status. Through the analysis of survey data, this part describes the current difficulties in rural remaining family based on example of village F in South Anhui Province. From three aspects of finance and life, medical, emotion, this part analyzes the current situation needs as well as some existing solutions, and gives a brief analysis of problems in these solutions. The third chapter is written in the perspective of symbolic interaction theory. rural remaining family and social support issue is not only in the external social support, but also in lack of cooperation and interaction. The last part will give some suggestions and ways to solve the problem in part four. For instance, take the government as the core of interaction, interaction diversity and self-support of the rural remaining Family.
