The Ministry of Education promulgated the English Curriculum Standard in 2001. The task-base teaching method was introduced into English language teaching, which was so popular and sought-after in English language teaching. The task-based teaching method emphasizes the acquisition of true situation in real communication. The purpose of this teaching method is to help the students learn this language through finishing tasks of using language so as to improve the students’ level of oral English and ability of language expression. As the task-base teaching method generalizes, most of the students’ oral English ability has made great progress. However, the task-based language teaching method which is popular in city cannot be used in rural junior high schools because it is obviously different between city and countryside on economic development, school condition and the unbalanced teachers’ distribution. Therefore, there are large disparities on the oral English ability of junior high students between countryside and city. As a junior high student in countryside, the author experienced herself deeply. Nevertheless, the teaching in junior high is a basic stage of education. It is very important to develop the students’ oral English ability, which should be focused on.This research subjects were the Class One and Class Two in Grade Seven in Yongfeng Junior High School in Er Keqian town of Qiqihar City. There are thirty students in each class. The study was about the application of the task-based language teaching to oral English teaching in rural junior high school. This research adopted the interview, questionnaire and test as research instruments. The author explored to apply task-based language teaching method effectively for the balance between oral English expression ability and test score in rural junior high school. During the experiment, task-based language teaching method was used in experimental class. The task-based language teaching considers the students as the center of the class. This teaching method helps the student learn the knowledge through finishing tasks and it provides opportunities of practicing oral English. The traditional teaching method of teacher center was applied in the control class. The teacher gave a great deal of knowledge input. The results of experiment presented the oral English ability in experimental class was obviously higher than control class, but the improvement of test score in controlled class was higher than experimental class. The results demonstrated that taskbased language teaching really can improve the junior high students’ oral English ability, but some problems appear in the procedure of applying the task-based language teaching method. The author gave analysis and discussions for the reasons of the problems.
