Research On The Ideological And Political Education In Universities Under The Background Of Mass Culture

Mass culture is under the background of industrial society and suffers from the co-existence of modern city, by means of mass media, in the form of goods, in accordance with the market economy rule. It is a kind of culture ideology and designs to make all the general public experience daily pleasure.As a kind of historic cultural forms, mass culture was first produced in western society, flourished in the 1930 s Europe and the United States. Since China’s reform and opening up, with the acceleration of globalization, the development of market economy and the development of mass media, mass culture has emerged and developed rapidly. It presents vitality with commercial, epidemic and daily characteristics and so on. Mass culture has become one of China’s major cultural consumption, and even is becoming a popular culture of social life. The prosperity of popular culture not only affects the university student’s thought and behavior, but also to a certain extent impacts on the mainstream culture, reduces the ideological and political education and the education effect, challenges social mainstream ideology, brings unprecedented challenges to the ideological and political education in colleges and universities.Mass culture is one of the cultural environment which the ideological and political educations in colleges and universities have to face. Therefore, research on the ideological and political education in universities under the background of mass culture has important theoretical significance and practical significance. Based on the characteristics, definition and the generation background in China of popular culture, this paper analyzes the relationship between the ideological and political education and mass culture, expounds the dual effects on mass culture, explore the strategy of the ideological and political education under the background of mass culture.This paper mainly includes four parts:The first part gives a brief introduction on popular culture related in this paper. First it discusses the mass culture and its main features. After, it analyzes the differences among the five cultures: the mass culture, dominant culture, elite culture, folk culture and the “popular culture”. Then this paper discusses the generating background of mass culture in China.The second part focuses on the relationship between ideological and political education and the mass culture. First, it analyzes the task, the connotation and cultural environment of the ideological and political education in colleges and universities Then, it elaborates fit and conflict between the popular culture and political education in colleges and universities. Well performance embodies in the objectives which is to meet people’s spiritual life need, advocates the spirit of innovation, reflects human nature idea, emphasizes the cultural entertainment functions. The conflicts embodies in the conflict between the multiple values of mass culture and the values of the unity of the ideological and political education;The perceptual characteristics of mass culture andthe rational fracture ideological and political education of rational fracture; The trivialization of mass culture and the lofty contradiction ideological and political education which it carries forward; The spontaneity of mass culture and the conflicts spoon-feeding of ideological and political education; The marginalization of popular culture and the mainstream ideology of the ideological and political education.The third part mainly expounds the mass culture from positive and negative effects on ideological and political education. Mass culture’s positive impact on the ideological and political education is mainly manifested in enriching the spiritual and cultural life of college students; adjusting college students’ psychological balance; Shaping the distinct personality of college students; promoting college students’ socialization process; broadening the channels of ideological and political education. At the same time, popular culture also brings negative influence to the ideological and political education, which mainly manifested in:Weakening the authority of ideological and political education; Challenging the effectiveness of the ideological and political education; Corrosioning of ideological and political education object.The fourth part expounds the countermeasures to ideological and political education under the background of mass culture. This is the focus of the full text, and also an important problem which is being solved in this paper. This section specific expounded from four aspects: Update the concept of ideological and political education;deepen the main channel of ideological and political theory courses; Expand the content of the ideological and political education; draw on the pattern of mass culture, rich in ideological and political education pattern.In conclusion, mass culture has become the realistic context of ideological and political education should not be ignored, the ideological and political education workers must understand the situation deeply, and cannot escape, even can’t simply rejected, but face severe challenges which mass culture puts forward with positive attitude.
