With the rising popularity of learning Chinese as a foreign language, more and more people are starting to learn Chinese in the world, and theage of new students is getting younger, therefore the study of teachingChinese to children and teenagers has received more attention fromacademics within the circle of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Because of the author’s experience of teaching Chinese at MalaysiaGlobal Hanyu and Culture Center, the author has witnessed low classroomparticipation rates amongst child learners. The author tried to design classteaching plan with game method, which aims to improve the student’sparticipation in the class by the game method which combined the staticand dynamic state of teaching, in which "game "and "non-game" isalternated. After analyzing the factors that affect instructional design, theauthor designed and implemented a specific teaching case, observed andrecorded the student’s dominant participation in the class, surveyed thestudents’ implicit participation and attitude about game teaching method byquestionnaires, learned the impact of game teaching method to children’sChinese class by interviewing two teachers who attended the class, thenevaluated and reflected on the design. The author compared the student’sparticipation rates before and after using game method, and concluded thatgame method can heighten the enthusiasm of children, attract their interest, and improve children’s participation in Chinese class. The comparison ofthe test scores before and after using game method also demonstrated thatgame method can promote children’s leaning effect to some extent. The author hopes that this study can provide reference for otherteachers who teach Chinese to children as a foreign language, and attractmore attention to teaching Chinese to children.
