From the rise of ancient Chinese Academy in the Tang Dynastyto20th century, it had been taken the responsibility of local educationthrough lectures, collecting books, and sacrificing. These are the threemajor functions of ancient Academy. Ancient Chinese Academy hadbecome the dissemination organization of culture, the institute to heritageacademic, and the association for social commitment. In the end of itsdeveloping process, the Academy in the late Qing Dynasty hadtransformed in changing age of the political, economic, social. ManyAcademies introduced Western culture to Chinese students, influencedthe transformation of Chinese intellectuals in modern society. As theculture media and the traditional academic center, what was thebackground when the Academies embracing Western culture? In thecollision and the fusion of Chinese and Western culture, how did theAcademies introduced Western culture and repositioning themselves?What kind of social changes had the introduction of Western culture inAcademies produced? In this paper, Hunan and Hubei Academy is thecase for the study.
