Zhidong Zhang is not only Chinese modern educator, and we can also call him the pioneer of the Chinese modem age education. He established various kinds of schools of several levels. His thoughts in the education together with its practice are creative. He established a complete set of education system for modem China. We're sure that Zhang's education system will help much with the education reform nowadays. We need to learn from his creativeness. My basic idea is to show Zhang's contribution to modern Chinese education from his thoughts, practice, and creativeness of schooling.This text is divided into four parts.The first part is mainly about the commendation of Zhang's contribution to modern China education.The second part displays Zhang's creativeness to modern education. Zhang's thought in divided into two stages according to history facts. First, 'to learn the Confucian classics thoroughly must be with a view to its application', which China has to make use in education; Second, western methods must applies to Chinese system. Each stage of Zhang's thought originates his new ideas to education. Contrasted to this, we can see his creativeness in education thought.The third part displays Zhang's creativeness in China's education practice. He developed his own education aims. Enriched contents of course trained special teachers, introduced various paths of education. He also established the creative education for education's sake.In the fourth part I compared Zhang's Memorial to the Throne about the Settlement of the Schools standard Rules with His majesty Schools Standard Rules. The former gave a whole extremely thoughtful rules and education aims. It made the teaching purposes and the teaching directions clear and definite. Zhidong Zhang passed the new educational system to strongly emphasize the compulsory education. He thought that theteachers' norm education was to be used as the base of the universal education. Attention was paid to the industry and commerce education. His new ideas requested new educational system and administer organizations to be established in the whole country. He pointed out that imperial examination system must be abrogated. Only the real and new educational system could do better. This just reflects Zhang's creativeness in China's education system.
