The cultivation of students’ chart capacity is an important part of quality education in geography, which is not only necessary, but also fully embodies the requirements and characteristics of modern geography education. However, at present chart teaching and learning in high-school geography education is in a "teachers embarrass, students helpless" situation.Therefore, in the process of teaching, teachers should give full play to the important role of the chart, summarize the reflections of the plight of charts, and carefully analyze the causes of the plight, so as to put forward targeted methods and countermeasures to improve the teaching efficiency of chart teaching and students’ ability of chart learning.From the perspective of the plight of chart teaching and learning in high school, through literature research, questionnaire survey, comparative analysis and experience summary method, this paper combines the theory of chart teaching and learning and the practical teaching of high school geography education, explores the plight of chart teaching and learning deeply and specifically. The basic conclusions are as follows:1. Geographical chart is not only a necessary part of the new teaching materials, but also an important carrier of the university entrance exam in geography, geography education in senior high school should give full play to the important role of chart teaching and learning.2. The plight of chart teaching and learning in high school is mainly reflected in two aspects:the first one is the plight of chart teaching, mainly reflected in the selection and use of charts; the second one is the plight of chart, mainly reflected in the four shortages when the students are learning.3. According to the causes of the plight in chart teaching and learning, this paper mainly analyzes from three aspects:teachers, students and charts.4. On the basis of the causes, five countermeasures are put forward to overcome the plight of chart teaching and learning, hopefully to provide useful reference to the teachers and students in trouble.
