The teaching method of chart system plays an important role in improving teaching quality and the students’quality. It helps students to establish a good structure of geographical knowledge, advance their learning incentives and cultivate their thinking ability.This paper studies the teaching method of chart system in the geography textbook "Compulsory Course I" in Hunan version. First of all, it analyzes previous research results with the literature method,comparison method and statistical method. According to the forms of charts in the "Compulsory Course I" of Hunan version, it divides the charts into the four categories:maps, diagrams, landscape maps and statistical charts. Then, it analyzes the characteristics of the chart system in units respectively.The chart system in the "Compulsory Course1" of Hunan version has the following features:large number of charts, various types, biggest proportion of diagrams,relatively big proportion of landscape maps and large quantity of charts instead of words. Second, there is a specific research of the teaching method of the chart system in the "Compulsory Course I" of Hunan version. Considering the characteristics of different charts, students’psychology and ages, this paper puts forward teaching methods about the chart system in "Compulsory Course I" of Hunan version correspondingly. There are mainly:(1) teaching methods of maps, including the lecture method, the systematically teaching method, the map method,the observation method, the induction and deduction method,the problem-solving teaching method and the analysis and synthesis method;(2) teaching methods of schematic diagram, including the analogy method, the problem-solving teaching method, the target analysis method, the demonstration method and the explaining method;(3) teaching methods of landscape maps, including the systematically teaching method, the map method, the analysis and synthesis method;(4) teaching methods of statistical charts, including the explaining method, the case analysis method, the problem-solving teaching method and the analysis and synthesis method.During the teaching activities of high school, based on teaching equipments,students’psychological characteristics and age features, course objectives and teachers’advantages, teachers are expected to optimize the lecture method, the map method, the demonstration method, the systematically teaching method and the logical method to put the chart system into practice so as to improve teaching efficiency.
