As an important part of higher education, higher vocational colleges bare the responsibility for training the technicists for the society. In recent years, higher education has shown unprecedented momentum of development. In the process of developing higher vocational education, the higher vocational colleges in Yancheng also develop fast. But Yancheng isa city with relatively backward economy and under the influence of conventional ideas foryears, the reform of physical education develops slowly and the progress of reform is alsolower than other regions. Since the reform and opening up in the country, physical education reform is not satisfactory, deficiencies need to improve. Such as the teaching goal-settingand the students who are engaged in the next life-long targeted working life arenot strong; the teaching methods and means are quite unitary; the teaching content is not rich; the enthusiasm of study is not high; the student’ status is deprived, and so on.By the methods of literature research, investigation, survey of experts, mathematical statistics, logical deducing, we learn about the currentsituation of our physical education in higher vocational colleges in Yancheng. By revealing the reality of it, we can use the methods of improvement and development to avoid the blindness of the work in physical education. And we also can provide new thoughts for the reform and development of physical education. Meanwhile these are of great significanceto provide a theoretical basis and reference for the development of physical education in Yancheng’s Vocational College.1. The higher vocational colleges in Yancheng have acquired some effect. The qualityof sports and health has improved continuously. But physical education conception in somecolleges is relatively behind, and the teachers have been accustomed to traditional mode ofclassroom of teaching and learning. And also they are lack of the spirit of reform andcreativity. 2. The physical education only has3or4terms in Yancheng colleges. There are onlytwo schools offering optional sports courses and elective courses, there is no school healthsports courses, ignoring the students’ sports demand, such as the abnormal part of the bodyand disease, remnants, weak special groups thus, affecting their physical educationlearning and the development of their health and mind.3. At present, there exist some problems in the teaching staff of vocational colleges inYancheng, such as lack of educational background, low quality, unreasonable title structureand poor practice ability. Most of the physical education teachers have to work12to18hours every week, their teaching task is overweight, so it undoubtedly influence theirscientific research, and meanwhile the schools physical education teachers have slimchance to participate in training, further education.4. There is no unified teaching material in the colleges of Yancheng. The teachingcontents are rather narrow and out-of-date, with singular curriculum structure: onlybasketball, volleyball, gymnastics, football and badminton. Fundamental physicaleducation classes is parted from male and female, It’s necessary to improve their abilitiesby three autonomous modes-the nurture of course.5.Most of the students in Yancheng higher vocational colleges know the the importance of physical education, and their sports motivation is correct, they pursuit the enhanced physique, give priority to improve their health, have positive learning attitude and they are interested in sports.6.The assessment of sports teaching in Yancheng higher vocational colleges is still a weak,using too much results evaluation to measure physical grades, ignore the learning process.This way of evaluation is not fair to students and does not conform to the characteristics ofvocational education, can’t reflect the real situation in the process of students in learning.7、Emphasis on sports teaching in higher vocational colleges is not enough, lack ofsports funding, most of the higher vocational college sports venues, equipment, sportsfacilities can not meet the normal training in physical education teaching, extracurricularsports activities and competition. Stadium is only for the physical education and studentstraining use, abnormal classes and extracurricular activities are not allowed. Students’extracurricular sports activities are lack of teachers’ guidance and locationequipment.8、The main influenced factors of sports teaching reform in Yancheng higher vocational colleges are: lack of recognition, short of funds, playground and sportsapparatus; have less qualified teachers and teachers’ comprehensive quality can’t keep upwith the social development demand, etc. Its development countermeasures: to establish"personality-professional coordinated development" mode of higher vocational physicaleducation curriculum pattern; to strengthen the construction of teaching staff; to strengthenthe consciousness of students and school sports atmosphere; to improve physical educationcurriculum evaluation system; to speed up the construction of sports venues andequipment.
