At present, vocational education remains a weak sector of national educational undertakingsin China. There still exist disconnections, dislocations and repeats in professional setting,curriculum and teaching material system as well as teaching and examination evaluation insecondary and higher vocational education. Thus, the attraction of vocational education is not sostrong and can not meet the requirements of training skilled personnel fully. The plan for educationreform and development clearly states that coordinated development of secondary and highervocational education is an important task to improve vocational education system. This is a key torebuilding the structure of modern vocational education system, strengthening the supportingability to Industrial Development and realizing the scientific development of vocational education.It is of great significance to the developing of majors related to tourism and the training ofprofessional personnel majoring in tourism if we can realize the coordinated development ofsecondary and higher vocational education.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the background,purpose and significance, literature review, research methods, ideas, innovations and the concept ofthe coordinated development of secondary and higher vocational education. The second chapterintroduces the special investigation the author carried out during the research. Based on theperspective of connecting and theoretical research and empirical research, the author take a detailedlook at the current state of secondary and higher vocational education and point out the problems inthe third chapter. The fourth chapter discusses the disconnections of secondary and highervocational education and analyze the reasons from four perspectives of the traditional concept,social demands, current situation of schools and students learning. Combining related educationaltheories and present situation of vocational education, the author puts forward somecountermeasures to strengthen the coordinated development of secondary and higher vocationaleducation, such as concept transformation, training objectives, mechanism and system, trainingmode, teaching elements and evaluation system.
