Japanese ie system was originally produced in the samurai family. Muromachi shogunate period extended to the tradesmen and artisans in town and became popular in Tokugawa times. In the Meiji Restoration period Japan began to pre-modernization reform, although the ie system contained some strong feudal elements, it was established in the form of law. After the second world war, under the intervention of the United States, Japan promulgated the new civil law, the Japan Constitution, meanwhile the ie system was abolished. Ie system nearly had existed for seven hundred years of history in Japan, played an important role in the process, this tradition also affected the Japanese rural society. Ie system as a kind of original system of Japan’s rural character and it’s rule mechanism. In the present rural governance has also played a big impact, the traditional system of ie transformed a new form to continue to play a role in the existing system.This article mainly gave an account of the Japanese traditional ie system, interpreted it’s origin, formation, development and evolution of the ie system to reveal the connotation and characteristics of it. And by studying the history of the local governance in Japan, revealing the role of the ie tradition in which affected, to explore the effect of the ie tradition in the present Japanese rural governance and the relationship between them.Japanese ie system mainly included, the eldest son successive system and the simulate consanguinity, etc., which on the basis of the concept of ie emerged, such as for the purpose of the continuation of his possessions, for the patriarchy of father and obedience consciousness for family, and which extended the conception of the parent-child relationship and collectivism, played the original basic function for Japan’s rural governance mechanism.From yoriai to choson congress, individual to action team organized, family loyalty to their loyalty to the group’s, was inseparable from the system of ie. The Japanese government absorbed the beneficial traditional factors into the ie system, established various institutional ways to facilitate Japanese farmers to participate in public affairs, to participate in political activities, in order to maintain the stability of the rural order.
